Part-time clerk sought (Feb. 2020)

The Borough of Elmwood Park is currently looking to fill a part-time clerk position, Monday through Friday from 10AM-2PM (unless otherwise requested). The successful candidate will work primarily in the Tax Department and will perform skilled clerical work and provide general support to optimize work procedures in the office. This position is ideal for someone who is motivated, able to prioritize work assignments as they come in, and capable of working without supervision. There will be instances where the successful candidate will act as a "Floater" in for other departments. Maximum hourly rate of $15/hr. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Make Tax Collections
  • Operate as a "Floater" when office coverage is required
  • Prepare and disseminate correspondence, memos, and forms
  • Perform administrative tasks, including filing and photocopying
  • Undertake receptionist duties
  • Respond to queries in person, via telephone, or via e-mail

Requirements:

  • Proven work experience as a clerk, secretary or administrative assistant
  • Familiarity with office organization and optimization techniques
  • High degree of multi-tasking and time management capability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Integrity and professionalism, including a friendly demeanor
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • High school diploma
  • Bilingual preferred

Substitute School Crossing Guards work in the absence of Full Time Crossing Guards, Monday through Friday, during the regular school year at designated locations in the Borough assisting elementary, middle and high school students. The hourly rate for Substitute Crossing Guards is currently $16.93.The Borough of Elmwood Park is currently recruiting for substitute School Crossing Guards. Crossing guards assist children in crossing the street on their way to and from school. Crossing guards provide safe crossings of the roadways and model appropriate street skills and behavior for children. They do this by:

  • Choosing good times to step into the street to create gaps in traffic
  • Standing in the roadway with STOP paddle continuously raised to shoulder height to show that pedestrians are using the crosswalk. Stands for 1-1.5 hours at a time.
  • Verbally directing children across the street
  • Recognizing and communicating potentially dangerous traffic situations and hazards in the environment
  • Fulfilling job requirements outdoors in all weather, including rain, fog, snow, sleet, cold, heat, humidity, and wind


Education, Training and Experience

Required:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Or Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and a New Jersey resident.
  • Must successfully pass a thorough criminal history and background check. * Valid Driver’s License may be required.
  • Must provide a physician’s note stating applicant is capable of the job requirements.
  • Must successfully pass 2 hours of classroom training and 20 hours on the job training.

Part-time DPW laborers sought

The Borough of Elmwood Park is seeking two part-time laborers to work in the Department of Public Works. The work includes production of signs, line painting, leaf/brush collection, road work, grounds maintenance, buildings maintenance, public work projects, snow plowing, sewer and water operations and repairs, operation of heavy equipment, and general maintenance of the Borough. Must possess a NJ driver’s license. Compensation is $16.50 per hour for the first 90 days then $18.00 per hour (20 to 24 hours per week). Mosquito Spraying Notice - Friday, September 13, 2019

Bergen County Mosquito Control will be performing a truck-mounted spraying mission to control adult Bergen County Mosquito Control will be performing a truck-mounted spraying mission to control adult mosquitoes using Scourge Aduliticde in Elmwood Park on Friday, September 13th. At the same time, we will be applying Vectobac WDG and/or Vectolex WDG to control mosquito larvae. These applications will be performed between the hours of 3-6 AM. In the event of rain during those hours, the operation will be postponed until Saturday September 14th. Please keep windows closed and pets indoors during the operation as well as the 2 hours after.
